Paper Abstract

...just like we're all physical.

"The benefit of psychological education is a personal journey and Tracy is there to support those with her wealth of knowledge and expertise. Her natural ability to garner trust should allow for meaningful and supportive discussions. Understanding the importance of maintaining good mental health will help our employees to be at their best."

Lyndsey Burdis, Former Manager at John Lewis

Mental health is like dental health
if you don't look after it, it will decay

Therapist, Supervisor and Founder of Mental Health Safety UK

Having been involved in the therapeutic world for many years, I have a huge passion to help others understand the reasons why we feel the way we feel and act the way we act!

Working on the premise that Education is power, I encourage my clients to understand the patterns and processes in which they are entangled, and in so doing, encourage them to grow towards their full potential.

I realised that what I've achieved with individuals is also of great benefit in the workplace to larger groups. My aim is to educate people in achieving and maintaining better mental health, because knowledge is power and you can't know what you don't know. In the same way we need to know how to keep ourselves physically fit, we also need to learn to stay mentally fit. I want to share my knowledge and experience in order to help teams maintain their mental fitness, so they will be happier, healthier and more effective.

Our Mental Health Safety Course is a Level 2 Accredited Qualification and is delivered in one day.

The course covers aspects of mental health including:

  • understanding the nervous system and how this affects your mental health

  • understanding how nurture affects our mental health

  • training in healthier communication  skills

  • learning effective active listening skills, aiding better communication and developing cohesive teams and greater staff retention

  • a step-by-step guide using a traffic light system for what to do and say to support your own and your colleagues' mental health.

Tracy kindly offered to deliver workshops over 4 days to the Nurses from St Oswald’s Hospice. This was as part of a wellbeing study day designed to help the Nurses to look after themselves, particularly after facing the stresses of caring for patients and families during a global pandemic.

Tracy focused on the effects of stress, the importance of recognising the symptoms and finding ways to release the pressure that we can all feel.

Her approach was warm, humorous and engaging. She is passionate about the importance of caring for our mental health and her message resonated with many of the attendees.

Tracy’s enthusiasm and compassion shone through and she brought a fantastic energy to the session

Here are just few of the wonderful comments made by the staff who attended:

“Fantastic session – very insightful”

“Very informative presentation giving me a better understanding of how people feel with anxiety and how I can help them”

“An amazing and inspiring session. Tracy really made me think about myself and my self-care – brilliant”

“Very good, Tracy had great energy”

“Brilliant session, Tracy used great examples eg the cola bottle to illustrate her points”

"It was a pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and dedicated professional. We created a great relationship with Tracy who tailored her sessions to our needs quickly and without fuss.

Tracy kept it personal, shared stories and used a range of materials to keep us involved. Her engaging style inspired the team to be open and honest throughout and she built trust in the room.

Employees were able to think about how they apply their learning personally as well as with their peers and teams back on the shop floor."

Operations Manager

"It was such a refreshing, uplifting experience working with Tracy – she immediately struck up a great rapport with everyone in the room and put us all at our ease. She was a great listener, tailoring our sessions to the needs of the group and creating time to explore when and where we wanted to delve deeper into a topic.

Tracy is clearly very knowledgeable on her subject matter and this comes across in a very engaging and down-to-earth way. She built trust amongst us and encouraged us to be open and honest and to share personal stories to bring it all to life. What I liked most of all about Tracy’s style was the way she helped us to relate our learning back to our day jobs. All in all, a truly inspirational experience!"
